Steven Morris serves as the District Conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Somerville, Tennessee. A native of Fayette County, Tennessee, Steven was raised on a family farm by his parents, Wiley and Rosa Morris, alongside his siblings Garrett and Tamara.
Morris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration in Plant and Soil Science from Tennessee State University in 2013. His NRCS career began in 2010 through the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), gaining valuable experience in various Georgia field offices. In 2014, he received his first permanent assignment in Albany, Georgia. Two years later, he was promoted to District Conservationist in Moultrie, Georgia.
In 2020, Morris returned to his home state as the Area Resource Conservationist in Cookeville, Tennessee, before being named District Conservationist for Fayette County in 2022.
Throughout his career, Morris has taken on numerous leadership and advisory roles. He has served on the State Field Office Technical Guide Committee and the Civil Rights Advisory Committee, and he has held acting roles as Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations in both Georgia’s Area 3 (Americus) and Tennessee’s Area 3 (Cookeville). He is a 2023 graduate of the Louisiana-Mississippi-Tennessee Southeast Leadership Development Program.
